Transhumanism & Bodies as Computers
Currents | Week 9 | Kevin Cadena
Weekly Description
Over the weeks, we've moved from Computer to Software to Internet, looking at how they impact human expression, creative and identity. This final week will focus on how viewing the body as a computer can change our perspective on the technologies that impact it.
Agenda
Station-Hopping
As opposed to previous weeks where we're all working through the same content together, this week students will be broken up into three groups of 4. Each group will start at a specific station and every 40 minutes will cycle to a new station.
Please review the different station and their instructions below! We will call for a break after the second cycle has been complete.
Station One: Small Group Review
- We'll be reviewing your Networked Identity Project in small groups
- We'll have 10 minutes per Student to go through the state of the project
- Some things to go over include:
- Research You've Done
- Assets You've Build
- Live Sketch You'd Put Togehter
- What's Left to Add To It?
- What do you want us to provide feedback on?
- What aspects are you still unsure about?
- After we've spoken on your work, please join our Glitch Team and add your in-draft project to the Week 8 Playlist
Station Two: Open Lab Working Session
This is open lab session that should be used towards one of the following:
- Working on Your Networked Identity Project
- Either prepping it for review or incporporating feedback from the small group review session.
- This includes bulding any assets, watching any tutorials, or anything else you might need to do.
- Setting up Your 'Tech Fair Display Board'
- Use the following template to set it up or feel free to make your own if you want to showcase your research in a different way!
Station Three: Corporeal Iterations (Me as a...)
Watch Together
Watch Ghost In The Shell: Identity in Space by NerdWriter1
10 minutesDo Individually
- Create An Iteration of Yourself As Something Beyond Your Corporeal Form.
- A good way to phrase this is Me as.. (a city, an 8-bit track, as a plant, as a constellation, etc)
- One note is that this should not be a track you like, it should be a translation of who you are into a new form.
- How do your personality traits, who you are, etc. translate into the medium of your choosing?
- Look at the Tiny Tools Directory if you need software to try this out.
- No use of large-scale software is permitted!
Do Together
- Create a non-corporeal form that allows your group to work together on one collective identity.
- Again this is not an extension of yourselves, this is yourselves
